We discovered these super cute “plastic grocery bag replacements” and have never looked back. The best part about these bags is that they can be neatly tucked away in your purse, ready to be used the next time you are buying groceries or making a Target run.

We grew up eating all our meals on Heath Ceramics not knowing what a true visionary and amazing designer Edith Heath truly was. Our mom picked up the line during a visit to Sausalito, CA in 1973. So not only do we appreciate the fabulous designs of her ceramics, these have a nostalgic aspect for us as well.
Fortunately we live very close to their ceramic studio where everything is still hand-crafted in the same manner since 1948. The designs and color palette of Heath Ceramics are still relevant today and will never go out of style. Here is a bit on Edith Heath from their website:
Edith Heath (1911-2005) founded Heath Ceramics in the mid-forties when, following her one-woman show at San Francisco’s Palace of the Legion of Honor, her pieces were picked up for sale at Gump’s of San Francisco. For the past half-century, Edith’s life was dedicated to the craft of ceramics and the skill of the artisan. This passion, along with the legacy of her work in stoneware clay body and glaze development, gives Heath its unique place in ceramics today. As a result of Edith’s timeless and unique design sense - many of her pieces live in the permanent collections of museums such as the MOMA in New York City.
If you live in the SF Bay area, Heath Ceramics is having an Open Studio/Silent Auction on May 3-4. Everything in their factory store will be 15% off!!! This is a great opportunity to find some classic kitchen ware for your modern home.

We were in Austin Texas for the big SXSW music festival last week and one of our favorite events was the Flatstock Poster Convention. With so much talent under one roof, there was not enough time to look at everything. For a full list of designers click.
Here are some of our favorites:

Don’t know about you but we receive a gross amount of junk mail everyday and it pains me to see such waste. We often receive multiple copies of the same catalog which just sends me over the edge. I tried calling a few catalog culprits (you know who you are Pottery Barn, Smith and Hawkin, and Delia’s!) and could not for the life of me wait on hold while they transferred me to the appropriate person to cancel my subscription. Uh, excuse me, I don’t ever recall “subscribing” to this trash.
After some frustration and a small bit of research (google search) I found a possible solution. It’s called www.catalogchoice.org. You simply register and search the catalogs you despise and put them on your “decline” list. The website takes it from there by contacting the companies on your behalf to get your name off their mailing list. I have entered in 6 catalogs and have stopped receiving 1, but I remain optimistic.
I encourage you to try it out. It’s easy, free and will decrease the number of catalogs in your mailbox lightening your footprint on the environment. Visit Catalogchoice.org

we often find inspiration outside the fashion world and rex ray is one of our favorites. his use of color and geometric shapes are right up our alley.
i first saw one of rex ray’s pieces dangling about 100 ft from the ground as they were hoisting the work of art up into a 3rd story window. the oversize piece would not fit in the elevator! rex ray himself was there watching and taking photos. i wish i had my camera that day!
if you have never seen his work, have a look at his website. he also has a good sampling of his work at the W hotel in downtown SF. here are a few choice pieces from the website:

ah, valentine’s day..another reason to eat more chocolate. as if we needed a reason. and in case chocolate, roses, and stuffed teddy bears are not your thing, try sending your lovey a “personalized” song sung by isaac hayes.

simply type in your lyrics and send it to any phone number. try it here.
how did sprint convince isaac to do this? i bet back in the day he never thought he would be doing anything for a large corporation!
from this…

and this…

to this…

IMO, anyone who can sport gold chain-link suspenders with pink spandex and still look like a bad-ass is pretty awesome no matter what they end up doing later in life. the whole scientology thing aside of course.

since we spend most of our days making jewelry in our studio, we either listen to npr or some good tunes. since all this election stuff is already starting to get old we have been relying on the tunes. lately we have been rocking the new album by sharon jones and the dap kings, “100 days 100 nights”.
sharon is known as the “female james brown”. when i first heard their cd titled, “natually”, i honestly thought it was music recorded in the 60’s. little did i know, they currently record and i even had a chance to see them live at bimbo’s in sf. if you ever have a chance to see her live YOU MUST GO! you will not be disappointed.
we heard a fresh air interview of sharon and learned that she used to be a prison guard at rikers island in ny. now she makes a living doing what she loves. now that’s inspirational! sharon rocks.
