Kim and I grew up in El Paso, Texas. Our Mom was a teacher and an artist. During the Summer months our Mom had a full Art Show calendar, and that was how we spent our Summer vacation. We borrowed our Grandpa’s Chevy truck with all of my Mom’s art and Booth set-up in back – and drove to the Art Shows (all over New Mexico and Arizona). Our Mom had a unique offering of paintings (Acrylic on Canvas). She also painted on Baskets and wood bowls. Most of her work was Southwest inspired landscape, art and architecture. People also commissioned her for mural work at restaurants, retail spaces and private residences. Chili’s Restaurants once commissioned her to paint her “Ristra Chili” paintings on wood bowls to hang in their restaurants.
At the time, we didn’t realize we were getting an education on entrepreneurship and marketing as an artist. We also witnessed the “art of bartering” – as my Mom collected some fabulous art from fellow artists at these shows. We continue to be inspired by our Mom’s talents and work ethic.
