SXSW: Flatstock

Wednesday, March 19th, 2008

We were in Austin Texas for the big SXSW music festival last week and one of our favorite events was the Flatstock Poster Convention. With so much talent under one roof, there was not enough time to look at everything. For a full list of designers click.

Here are some of our favorites:

catalog clutter

Friday, March 7th, 2008

Don’t know about you but we receive a gross amount of junk mail everyday and it pains me to see such waste. We often receive multiple copies of the same catalog which just sends me over the edge. I tried calling a few catalog culprits (you know who you are Pottery Barn, Smith and Hawkin, and Delia’s!) and could not for the life of me wait on hold while they transferred me to the appropriate person to cancel my subscription. Uh, excuse me, I don’t ever recall “subscribing” to this trash.

After some frustration and a small bit of research (google search) I found a possible solution. It’s called www.catalogchoice.org. You simply register and search the catalogs you despise and put them on your “decline” list. The website takes it from there by contacting the companies on your behalf to get your name off their mailing list. I have entered in 6 catalogs and have stopped receiving 1, but I remain optimistic.

I encourage you to try it out. It’s easy, free and will decrease the number of catalogs in your mailbox lightening your footprint on the environment. Visit Catalogchoice.org

rex ray

Tuesday, March 4th, 2008

we often find inspiration outside the fashion world and rex ray is one of our favorites. his use of color and geometric shapes are right up our alley.

i first saw one of rex ray’s pieces dangling about 100 ft from the ground as they were hoisting the work of art up into a 3rd story window. the oversize piece would not fit in the elevator! rex ray himself was there watching and taking photos. i wish i had my camera that day!

if you have never seen his work, have a look at his website. he also has a good sampling of his work at the W hotel in downtown SF. here are a few choice pieces from the website:
